Running Insights with Caitlin Mann

I recently had the privilege of connecting with Caitlin Mann, a University of Victoria Track alumni, to gain insight into how running can positively impact lives and foster healthy communities. Caitlin's boundless passion, infectious enthusiasm, and deep knowledge of the sport are undeniable. Reflecting on her beginnings in running, Caitlin shared that the sport demands immense patience and consistency. She emphasized that becoming a better runner takes time and that the focus should be on the journey rather than immediate results. While it’s natural to ask, “How fast was I?” or “How many kilometers did I run?” Caitlin encourages focusing on taking care of your body, enjoying the process, and finding beauty in the monotony of gradual improvement. Caitlin also highlighted that running has provided benefits beyond the physical. One of the main benefits is a significant boost in confidence, helping her tackle daily challenges. Simply getting out of bed and going for a run gives her the confidence that she is in control and can handle any curveballs life may throw at her. Moreover, she noted that running is an inclusive sport accessible to all with just a pair of shoes and some open space. Caitlin’s reflections underscore the transformative power of running not only as a physical activity, but also, to build confidence and promote community well-being.
