TC10K Takes Steps Toward a More Sustainable Future

Victoria, BC – March 20, 2025

The RunSport TC10K is committed to reducing its environmental impact and moving toward a more sustainable race experience. While achieving zero waste won’t happen overnight, we are taking meaningful steps in that direction, starting with new sustainability initiatives for this year’s event. Through partnerships with Surfrider for bottle collection and Sustainable Fox for waste management, we aim to significantly reduce waste generated during the race. Additionally, we have introduced enhanced recycling and waste disposal stations throughout the venue and are committed to sorting course waste post-event. These venue stations will be monitored by our dedicated partners and led by our new Sustainability Coordinator, Claire Irvine. Participants will see clear signage and a Green Team assisting with proper waste disposal to ensure responsible waste management.

Beyond race day, we are working to minimize our environmental impact by prioritizing the use of recyclable and compostable materials and continuously evaluating ways to make the TC10K a greener event.

“We recognize that hosting a large-scale event like the TC10K has an environmental impact, and we’re committed to doing our part to reduce it,” says Mariah Kelly, TC10K Race Director. “Our goal is to find new ways to minimize waste and make sustainable choices, not just for race weekend, but for the long-term health of our community and planet. We are excited and privileged to have Claire Irvine leading this initiative as our new Sustainability Coordinator.”

While this is just the first step in a larger effort, our long-term commitment is to work toward a zero-waste TC10K. We ask all participants and spectators to join us in this mission by being mindful of their waste and using the designated disposal and recycling stations throughout the event.

Together, we can make a difference and ensure that the TC10K leaves a lasting positive impact—not just on its runners and walkers, but on the beautiful city of Victoria for generations to come.
